Which is better, a home builder or a general contractor?

Generally speaking, a general contractor is someone who manages a team of subcontractors to help do various types of construction projects in your home. However, a general contractor’s primary role is executing the construction of project plans, which they do with the help of specialists such as architects. After the planning phase, the general contractor will ensure your home is built to your desired specifications.

What’s the difference between home builder and general contractor?

Contrary to a general contractor who you will only see once the building of your home begins, a home builder conducts a more in-person service where they will stick with the project and work with it till it’s completed, furnished and the keys ready to be handed over. Home builders also tend to be much more apt to have a team of individuals on-call or in-office, ready to assist with whatever tasks are necessary at any given time.

While the roles of custom home builders and general contractors are different, they’re also very similar. If you hire a general contractor, you may need to hire other specialists like architects and designers and do some of the day-to-day project management on your own. For large-scale home projects, custom home builders have to be called in to complete your exact specialised order and make sure all your project plans are executed correctly and on time.
